Folk medicine in Bessarabia the end of XIX – beginning of XX century
Objectives of the study are as comprehensive study of the phenomenon of folk medicine, societal attitudes about health and illness, the role of traditional healers in society, symbols, beliefs and superstitions as a segment of traditional views of the world.
The objectives of the study are to define the fundamental theoretical and historiographical points in the interpretation of the problem, as well as in the identification and characterization of medical practices, their structure, syncretism, symbolism of space, time, objects used, the environment within which the ritual; in the identification of specific features of Bessarabian folk medicine during a given historical period.
The novelty and originality of the work is that it represent the first comprehensive, interdisciplinary study of traditional medicine as an integral part of folk knowledge and philosophy. For the first time and discusses the following issues: therapeutic ritual as a complex symbolic act, certain traditional practices, the role and place of therapeutic complexes in the traditional universalfailure, the analysis of the Bessarabian folk medicine from the point of view of the rational nature of knowledge.
Allowed important scientific problem consists in the definition and coverage of folk therapeutic features of the complex, that allowed to recover the important scientific aspect of popular spiritual culture, and to replenish the national cultural heritage.
Theoretical significance consists in the analysis of the evolutionary terminology and conceptual characteristics of folk medicine, numerous treatments, mental resources, according to which health is seen as harmony, and disease as its offense, recovery from a disease as a return to harmony and the essence of the therapeutic concept, manifested in three forms: magical, religious and empirical-medical.
Practical significance. The research results can be used in the pedagogical process in educational and instructional purposes. The content of the work can serve as a source of information for courses in Ethnology and cultural anthropology, history of traditional medicine in the region. The materials and conclusions of the thesis will help in the design of exhibitions and special collections in the museums of the Republic of Moldova.
