Objectives of the study are as comprehensive study of the phenomenon of folk medicine, societal attitudes about health and illness, the role of traditional healers in society, symbols, beliefs and superstitions as a segment of traditional views of the world.

The objectives of the study are to define the fundamental theoretical and historiographical points in the interpretation of the problem, as well as in the identification and characterization of medical practices, their structure, syncretism, symbolism of space, time, objects used, the environment within which the ritual; in the identification of specific features of Bessarabian folk medicine during a given historical period.

The novelty and originality of the work is that it represent the first comprehensive, interdisciplinary study of traditional medicine as an integral part of folk knowledge and philosophy. For the first time and discusses the following issues: therapeutic ritual as a complex symbolic act, certain traditional practices, the role and place of therapeutic complexes in the traditional universalfailure, the analysis of the Bessarabian folk medicine from the point of view of the rational nature of knowledge.
